Winter Mountaineering School Online Program - Glaciology and Glacier Travel
Thank you for your interest in an ADK Winter Mountaineering School online workshop.
This FREE course is only available to those with an active ADK Membership. You will need a computer or tablet with internet capabilities to join us.
Glaciology and Glacier Travel: Are you curious about topographical features like moraines, bergschrunds, and accumulation zones? Are you interested in learning about how one traverses these dynamic landscapes via Prusiks, pickets, and pulley systems? If youíve been successful climbing non-glaciated areas, then maybe itís time to start planning for the bigger mountains that involve snow travel. Learn about the anatomy of a glacier and all the new gear required to move safely across these icy landscapes. Please join Rich Murray and Jeremy Osburn as they discuss what they have learned over the years about traveling on a glacier. Topics will include rope skills, a conversation regarding snow safety, which mountains to start with, and how to pick the right partners to learn these new skills with.
