Backcountry Snowshoeing for Beginners
Thank you for your interest in an Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) workshop.
Health insurance is required to participate in this program.
Backcountry Snowshoeing for Beginners is an introductory snowshoe program to help you gain an understanding of equipment and techniques needed to snowshoe on any terrain. Please plan on meeting in ADK’s Education Yurt Village at 9:00am for introductions and overview of the course. We’ll talk about equipment and backcountry safety considerations and then head outside for more instruction. While on the trail we’ll practice techniques, discuss safe-off trail travel, and cover basic information on wildlife tracking, winter ecology and the rich cultural history of the Adirondacks. The program will be led by one or more of ADK’s Education Department staff.
No snowshoeing experience is necessary. This course is best suited for adults and kids 12 and older. Be prepared to snowshoe off-trail in deep snow and in cold weather! Good physical condition, proper winter clothing, and proper equipment are a must.
ADK members receive a 10% discount on programs and lodging. To reserve lodging at the Adirondak Loj, please call the Adirondack Mountain Club at (518) 523-3441 or book online.
If you have any questions about the program please contact Mary Glynn, ADK’s Outdoor Skills Coordinator, at (518) 523-3480 x 111 or by email at mary@adk.org.
We look forward to meeting you. Come prepared to learn and to have fun!
