Wilderness First Aid Winter
Thank you for your interest in an Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) workshop.
Health insurance is required to participate in this program.
The April 3rd – 4th Wilderness First Aid course is hosted at ADK’s Wiezel Trails Cabin, located at 1002 Adirondack Loj Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946. This is an intensive two-day workshop that will teach students how to deal with medical emergencies when they are miles from help and dialing 911 is not an option. The curriculum is comprehensive, yet practical. It includes the essential principles and skills required to manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. Class time will be spent both inside and outside in the rain, sunshine, or snow. Please be prepared for wintery conditions. Good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must.
Students who successfully complete the course will receive the Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Aid certification and Healthcare Provider-level CPR certification. The program will be led by instructors from Wilderness Medical Associates International.
Plan on meeting at 8:00am sharp each morning at ADK’s Wiezel Trails Cabin. Parking is available at the end of Hiker Parking Lot #2. Class will run until approximately 5:00pm each evening.
An optional Course & Accommodations Package is available for up to 4 participants, which includes instruction, course materials, parking, lodging for Friday and Saturday nights, and meals starting with dinner Friday evening through lunch on Sunday. To get the most out of the workshop, participants are encouraged to stay right at ADK’s facilities. Single rooms in the Wiezel Trails Cabin are reserved for participants in the package. Package participants should bring their own sleeping bag/warm linens, a pillow, and towels. The bedrooms are furnished with two sets of bunk beds, and the cabin contains 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a common area. If you are participating in the Lodging Package, you may arrive on Friday anytime between 2pm and 6pm to claim your room and to get settled. A boxed dinner will be available at 6:30pm in the nearby Adirondak Loj. Breakfast will be served at 7:00am each morning in the Loj as well, but be sure that you return to the Wiezel Trails Cabin by 8:00am for instruction.
